Cape Town - Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund insisted they were not as bad as the scoreline suggested after a mauling at the hands of Brazil at FNB Stadium on Wednesday night.
A hat-trick from the impressive Neymar and a goal each from Oscar and Fernandinho gave the five-time world champions a 5-0 victory.
However, Igesund feels the scoreline was not a true reflection of the game.
"We played against a very, very good team, we all know that, but it wasn’t a bad performance. We kept the ball in certain places, but they were just so much better than us,” Igesund told the Soccer-Laduma website.
“I don’t think the scoreline is a fair reflection of the game, 5-0 is a lot. The first and third goal were bad goals to concede, and then we were always chasing the game,” added Igesund.
The coach added that Brazil's decision making, especially in the last third, was much better than South Africa's.
He lauded Neymar for an outstanding performance, but said Bafana will learn a lot from the game.
