Igesund: Coaching job no worry

Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund says he has no concerns over his position as head coach of the national team.

Igesund, whose contract with the SA Football Association (SAFA) expires in July, dismissed reports that Wednesday’s friendly international against Brazil at the FNB Stadium could be his last.

“As far as my future is concerned, I don’t think about that,” Igesund said in Johannesburg on Monday.

“I’ve got a contract until [July], so why should I go home and have sleepless nights about my future?”

Meanwhile, Igesund was quick to shrug off questions about his alleged wrong-doings during the African Nations Championship (Chan) tournament. It was reported he apparently advised his players to ask for extra money ahead of the competition in January this year.

“I welcome those allegations because they are totally unfounded,” Igesund said simply.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
