Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana striker Katlego Mphela was arrested early on Monday morning for drunk driving after a weekend of celebrations, reports the Sowetan.
The star player, known by the nickname "Killer", scored the national soccer side's only goal in their win against Egypt on Saturday at Johannesburg's Ellis Park Stadium.
Mphela, who lives in Midrand, was apprehended in the Sandton suburb of Sandown at about 02:50 on Monday after police stopped him driving erratically in an Audi S3.
The Sowetan understands that before his arrest, Mphela had been partying with friends at the Garden Of Eden nightspot in Rosebank, northern Johannesburg, and was believed to have been on his way home when police stopped him.
Police officers took him to the police station, where they detained him for several hours before taking a blood sample.
The 27-year-old was released on bail of R1 000 and was warned to appear in the Randburg magistrate's court later this year when his blood alcohol test results would be finalised.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini confirmed that Mphela was arrested on charges of drunk driving and will be appearing in court in August.
