Bafana tumble in rankings

Johannesburg - South Africa fell eight positions to 84th in the latest FIFA soccer world rankings released on Wednesday.

Bafana Bafana played two international friendly matches in October - losing 1-0 away to Poland and beating Kenya 2-1 in Nairobi.

They next play Zambia in the Nelson Mandela Challenge at the FNB Stadium in Soweto on November 14.

Bafana Bafana are ranked 21st in Africa.

Meanwhile Argentina, on a winning run that has taken them to the top of the nine-nation South American World Cup group, overtook Portugal to move into third place in the rankings.

World and European champions Spain remain top, ahead of Germany, as the Portuguese slip back into fourth, one place ahead of Italy, whose recent run of form in the European qualifying competition has lifted them three places to fifth.

England slip back a further place from last month into sixth with the Netherlands also dropping a place to seventh.
