Bafana star faces arrest

Johannesburg - Mamelodi Sundowns captain Teko Modise faces possible jail time after failing to pay R31 000 in monthly maintenance to his estranged wife, the Cape Times reported on Thursday.

The Bafana Bafana star was R52 000 in arrears after defaulting on a February court order to pay his wife, Ntswaki Felicia Modise.

She reportedly wanted him to be held in contempt of court and locked up. According to court papers he earned about R150 000 a month and amassed wealth from endorsement deals with a deodorant brand and electronics company. He was also an ambassador for a fast-food chain during the 2010 Soccer World Cup.

His wife approached the courts in November after he apparently deregistered their daughter from their medical aid and kicked them both out of their house.

According to the report, Modise had until Friday to file papers opposing the application, failing which the matter would be set down for a formal hearing in two weeks. The two were in the process of getting divorced amid claims of infidelity.
