Bafana pay-off for Fransman

Johannesburg - SuperSport United defender Bevan Fransman says he was confident his performances at club level would be enough to earn a call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad.

The former Maccabi Tel Aviv and Kaizer Chiefs centre back was speaking to Football411 after he received a recall to Gordon Igesund's new Bafana squad, and the player is confident he is in the team to stay.

"The last time I played for the national team was sometime towards the end of last year, in November (against Zimbabwe) and I'm delighted to be back," Fransman told this site.

"I'm just enjoying my football, that comes first and the aim is to put in a good performance week in and week out.

"Look, I have said before that my main aim is to play well for SuperSport United and a call-up to the team should follow if you play well at club level. So I was positive about my performance in the games I have played for SuperSport so far and I felt I was in with a shout in terms of the national team."

The 28-year-old appears unfazed by the prospect of fighting for a spot in the national team, despite being up against Eric Mathoho, Siyabonga Sangweni and Bongani Khumalo.

"I have always faced stiff competition since I became part of the national team, so I feel it is always a good thing when no-one is guaranteed a position, especially now because we have a new coach at the helm," he said.

"I don't know what the coach is thinking, but from my side I will give him 100% whenever I get my chance.

"I'm sure I will face the competition, especially this being the first camp with the new coach, but I'm up for the fight."

Fransman made his Bafana debut in August 2005 in a COSAFA Castle Cup clash against Zambia, a match that ended 2-2, and he has since gone on to make 15 appearances.
