The former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, who made a success of an international career with Bursaspor and Fenerbahce in Turkey, admits current boss Pitso Mosimane is on the right track but he won't celebrate until they have claimed some silverware.
Mosimane has certainly restored pride to the national team, who now occupy 38th place on FIFA's world rankings, which is considerably better than the 85th place Bafana held during the 2010 World Cup.
Moshoeu told Business Day: "I will not celebrate until we have actually achieved something.
"If we can win the African Nations Cup again, only then will I say we are finally on the right track as the national team.
"Do not get me wrong, I am not being hard on them.
"All I am saying is that Bafana won the African Nations Cup in 1996. We qualified for other African Nations Cup tournaments in the past.
"We qualified for the World Cup in 1998, 2002 and 2010. So this is nothing new and we have matched these in the past.
"There is nothing special. But it will definitely be something to celebrate if we are able to win the African Nations Cup again because we have never repeated the effort of 1996.
"We have to better the class of 1996 because everything else is judged against the achievements of that team. The fact is their record still stands.
"We have talent in abundance and we are probably second only to Brazil. But you know that talent alone is not good enough. It still has to be guided properly."
