After the match he went down to the Bafana Bafana dressing room to personally congratulate the players and the technical team.
The Minister of Sport and Recreation Fikile Mbalula, SAFA president Dr Danny Jordaan, several SAFA NEC members, and Mamelodi Sundowns President Patrice Motsepe accompanied the Head of State.
“This is a good day for football and I am very happy after this fine performance by the team. You showed a lot of character by coming back to not only to equalise but to go on and score two goals. This is the mark of a good team. I hope you grow from strength to strength. I am also happy because I came from a very big function in Mpumalanga, and I rushed to be here little did I know that I will be shown what I saw today. Thank you for making us smile,” said President Zuma.
His words were echoed by the Minister of Sport.
“I am glad we are here with the The President (Zuma) to watch this match. The President always believed in Bafana Bafana even when the prophets of doom had written them off, so this is the number one supporter.
Thank you Mr President and long live Bafana Bafana. This was a very special day, not for any other thing but the President came from the function of celebrating 102 years of the ANC and I dare say this is a good present to the African National Congress,” concluded Minister Mbalula.
