Zurich - Bafana Bafana have moved up four positions to No 47 in the latest FIFA rankings released on Wednesday.

Bafana were at No 51 last month.

Soccer World Cup-winners Spain leads the FIFA rankings, and new Asian champion Japan leap into the top 20.

African champions Egypt plummeted from the top 10, down to No 33, because the value of their January 2010 title dropped more than one year on.

Spain heads an unchanged top nine, followed by the Netherlands, Germany, Brazil and Argentina. Greece rise one spot to No 10.

World Cup quarter-finalists Ghana now lead African teams, up one to No 15.

Good news they must beat Egypt in March in the qualifier

  • tdk25 - 2011-02-02 12:23

    Still pathetic

Good news, indeed ! I still think that Aaron Mokoena is a weak captain & a poor player. He makes mistakes that cost us...Get rid of him & groom either Pienaar or Bongani Khumalo...

      Gunner Nash - 2011-02-02 15:22

wow! forgive me for always believing Aaron was human and is allowed to make mistakes, as us human beings normally do. I guess i should find another explanation as to why Bafana is currently rated 47th in the world, as Mokoena is the only one making mistakes.

Slowly but surely we are getting back to our rightful place in the World football top 30 in is where we belong. now we must hit Egypt hard and get the three points on offer.

  • FootballLove - 2011-02-02 12:56

these rankings mean nothing. we must win on the field.

  • Sikhumbuzo - 2011-02-02 13:54

Promising let's hope we also do well against Egypt.

Wow 47th. brilliant. way to go. very pround indeed-keep setting the bar high. lol, atleast we halved our ranking of 92nd from last year.

Can someone tell me how these rankings are compiled. We lost to the USA way back in November. Why a positive move from 51 to 47? It is the same question I have regarding England: they never leave the top 10 irrespective of how they perform in Major tournaments. They are always at no 6.

      Tlaks - 2011-02-02 22:56

Yes we may have lost, but it also depends on how other countries rating above us have performed. I know it's hard to understand, but you've got to see a broader picture. The other thing is, the margin with which we lost and the team to which we have lost has a bearing. Look I do not claim to be an expect, but I can tell you, if we lose against Lesotho for instance, a country that's not even in the top 100; gee we will take a nose dive. In short, be wary to play weak oppositions!

      Rajty - 2011-02-03 10:10

Thats because England keep playing kazhakstan LOL

Awesome-Pitso you have been proving your detractors wrong for a while now- well done to the boys- I truly believe that they have the skill to beat the best- they only need experience to hone the mental aspects that the game demands....keep walking boys
