Bafana call up McCarthy

2012-09-02 21:43

Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund called up veteran Bafana Bafana star Benni McCarthy into the squad on Sunday, after Mamelodi Sundowns striker Edward Manqele sustained an injury.

Manqele, who had been called up as a replacement for Siyabonga Nomvethe, pulled a hamstrong during the PSL match against Maritzburg United on Sunday afternoon.

The veteran Nomvethe was carried off injured on Saturday evening during Moroka Swallows' match against Orlando Pirates, prompting Igesund to name Manqele as his replacement on Sunday morning. Just hours later, Manqele himself pulled a hamstring forcing Igesund to turn to the veteran McCarthy.

Bafana Bafana leave for Sao Paulo on Monday morning to play five-time FIFA World Cup champions Brazil on Friday. They also have a friendly game scheduled against Mozambique at Mbombela Stadium on September 11.

This news comes after skipper Steven Pienaar was also withdrawn from the clash against Brazil after pulling a thigh muscle playing for Everton at the weekend.

Being early sleeper I thought I was having a very very bad dream benny \boom boom\ called up for SA team to face brazil but again my young was awake when this happen he woke me up to reality that indeed SA is doomed in terms of development 1st its baba mkhulu nomvete now this how many unknown player here and abroad that play over the par but not getting called up and what this say to them that no matter how hard they work they must forget? This is out of line SA and I'm talking as. SAcan not that is a known fact that I don't love pie-rats as one will say let's put our teams aside you will see what I mean and talking about

  • mafera.moropa - 2012-09-03 09:54

we have been complaing about development for more that decades now. we react only when we are faced with the challenge, we don't plan well... we take quick decision, and short cuts and expect mirracles thus the reality of SA SOCCER. Is fine bring them in either being Bennie or Novete, but the thing is how long are they going to be there... so let us bring them but still get them to share the knowledge and experience with young guys. SA TEAMS are not helping either because are always afraid to put our own young stars in the first teams. how under twenty are there in PSL teams now... We need to promote our young stars, let scruble until they get it Right, instead we doing opposite... Problem is when we talk about experience we think one must over thirty years, no...! at 24 player must have enough experience already. Khosi for Life... Macarthy go there and guide our young stars in Good way Please!!!
