Johannesburg - Things are not exactly going according to plan for Bafana Bafana striker Bernard Parker at his trial with Leicester City.
According to Leicester-based news website thisisleicestershire.co.uk, the club's Swedish manager Sven Goran Eriksson is determined to land a Premier League experienced striker during the transfer season.
Parker could still be signed by Eriksson, but it seems he will be destined for a place on the Championship side's bench.
Thisisleicestershire.co.uk says that "Parker has been quoted as saying City have told him they want to sign him, but Eriksson said that was not true."
“We want to know the cost of it because I am not sure [Parker] will improve the starting 11, but might make the bench better,” Eriksson is quoted as saying.
“Because of that it depends on the cost, and we will be talking with FC Twente about that.
“It will probably not happen.....because it depends totally on the cost.
“I am looking for players who can go straight into the first team because otherwise there is no point in spending money. We are looking for players from the top level.”
Parker will now have to think carefully about his future should he be offered the role of substitute at Leicester.
Which is better- sitting on the bench at perennial Dutch challengers Twente, with the small chance of playing in the Champions or Europa Leagues, or sitting on the bench at second-tier Leicester?
