Anxious wait for Igesund

Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund will find out by the end of the week whether he still has a job as national team coach or not.

According to reports, the SA Football Association will meet this week to deliberate on Igesund’s African Nations Championship (Chan) report and make a decision thereafter.

Igesund could not get Bafana out of the group stages of the 2014 Chan.

Prior to that he had also battled at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and also failed to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

His contract expires in June but it is believed he will not be offered a new deal on the balance of his performance in these three events.

There have also been media reports that the coach tried to influence the players to ask for more bonus money from the association, something which did not sit well with the SAFA top brass.

But Igesund dismissed the claims.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
