Arrest made after player hit

Stevenage - British police have arrested a man on suspicion of assaulting a player, who was punched as he celebrated his team's victory in an FA Cup match.

Stevenage defender Scott Laird was floored by a right hook after being approached by a man following the fourth-tier club's 3-1 victory over Premier League club Newcastle on Saturday.

Hertfordshire Police said a 24-year-old man from Stevenage was arrested in connection with the incident after handing himself in at a local police station on Monday.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident that was shown live on ESPN in Britain.
