London - Liverpool will face third-tier Notts County in the League Cup second round, while Merseyside rivals Everton were handed a home tie against minnows Stevenage in Thursday's draw.

The Reds, who won the League Cup in 2012, failed to qualify for Europe this season and will therefore begin their League Cup campaign against League One side County, who beat Fleetwood in the first round.

Everton also face League One opposition in Graham Westley's Stevenage, with West Bromwich Albion hosting League Two newcomers Newport.

Premier League new-boys Cardiff, beaten by Liverpool at Wembley in 2012, face a trip to League Two team Accrington after James Beattie's men stunned Championship opponents Middlesbrough in the first round.

West Ham welcome Cheltenham to Upton Park and Aston Villa take on Rotherham, while Alan Pardew's Newcastle meet Morecambe and Fulham go to Burton.

Premier League trio Sunderland, Norwich and Stoke have home games against Milton Keynes Dons, Bury and Walsall respectively.

Southampton travel to Barnsley and newly-promoted Crystal Palace head to Bristol City.

Hull, who also came up from the Championship last season, take on League One outfit Leyton Orient.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and current holders Swansea enter at the third-round stage due to their participation in Europe, together with FA Cup winners Wigan who are about to embark on a Europa League campaign.

Draw for the English League Cup second round:
Carlisle v Leicester
