Cape Town - The Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Under-20 competition is set to get underway in Lesotho on Tuesday afternoon.
Fourteen countries from the southern region will compete in a 10-day tournament.
The South African Under-20 team, affectionately known as Amajita, are in Group C alongside Seychelles, Namibia and Zambia.
Shakes Mashaba’s boys will open their campaign against Seychelles in Mafeteng on Wednesday afternoon, with kick-off scheduled for 14:00 (SA time).
Speaking at the pre-match press conference attended by all 14 coaches, Mashaba said it would be foolhardy to take any of the 14 teams lightly.
“There are never easy games in the modern game of football,” Mashaba told the SAFA website.
“This tournament is wide open with no clear cut favourites. But what I am confident of is that this will be a terrific tournament in which fans are assured of entertaining football throughout the tournament.
“Those who are not here will miss a fiesta of a tournament,” added Mashaba
Mashaba named his 19-man squad to travel to Lesotho at the SAFA house in Nasrec, Johannesburg over the weekend.
