Ajax coach backs SA striker

Amsterdam - Ajax Amsterdam coach Frank de Boer has backed Bafana Bafana attacker Thulani Serero to become a "top player" following his arrival from Ajax Cape Town.

Serero joined the Dutch giants earlier this week on a four-year deal, with the option for two extra seasons, after several trials in Amsterdam.

According to Sky Sports, De Boer believes that the 21-year-old will develop into an excellent footballer.

"He has made a very good impression," De Boer told De Telegraaf ."When you see how easily he moves, I think he can be a top player. He's very quiet and nice. It's always 'yes mister, ok mister'."

Serero is an Ajax Cape Town youth product and signed his first professional contract with the club in 2008. Former Ajax and Netherlands legend De Boer has no doubt that Serero's training in Cape Town will work in his favour.

"When Kanu and Finidi (George) came to Ajax during my time (as a player) they could not fit in well or shoot," said De Boer.
"You can see Thulani was educated at Ajax Cape Town and has enjoyed it."

Serero has made several appearances for the South African under 20 and under 21 sides in the past, and has already made two senior caps.
