Mozambique dismisses coach

Maputo - Mozambique has dismissed coach Mart Nooij after the team failed to reach the knockout stages of the African Cup of Nations.

Fezal Sidat, chairperson of Mozambique's football federation, told the Associated Press by telephone from Angola that the Dutch coach's contract will not be renewed when it expires at the end of January.

"There is no point to renew with Mart Nooij, who could not fulfill his goal of taking the team to the final," Sidat said.

Earlier Wednesday, Nigeria beat Mozambique 3-0 in their final Group C game. Mozambique got one point from its three group games.

Nooij oversaw Mozambique's first qualification for the event since 1986.
