Katongo AFCON's best player

Bata - Zambia captain Christopher Katongo was named the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations Player of the tournament following his side's fairytale win over the Ivory Coast on Sunday.

The Henan Construction striker had already received recognition for his efforts back home when he was promoted to Warrant officer first class but has now received the plaudits of the Confederation of African Football for his contribution to Chipolopolo's AFCON success.

Zambia striker Emmanuel Mayuka was crowned Top Goalscorer of the competition while Ivory Coast's Jean-Jacques Gosso picked up the Fair Player of the competition accolade, with the Fair Play award going to Côte d'Ivoire.

A number of Zambian and Ivorian players were also named in the Team of the Tournament including goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene, defenders Gosso, Stophira Sunzu, attackers Emmanuel Mayuka, Yaya Touré, Gervinho and Didier Drogba with Rainford Kalaba making it on to the bench.

The full team is as follows:

Kennedy Mweene, Jean-Jacques Gosso, Stophira Sunzu, John Mensah, Adama Tamboura, Emmanuel Mayuka, Yaya Touré, Gervinho, Seydou Keita, Christopher Katongo, Didier Drogba.

Substitutes: Boubacar Barry, Rui, Youssef Msakni, Manucho, Eric Mouloungui, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Sadio Diallo, Cheick Diabaté, Houssine Kharja, Mudather El Tahir, Rainford Kalaba, Kwadwo Asamoah
