Blatter: Extend president's term

Johannebsurg - FIFA president Sepp Blatter suggested here on Sunday that the term of office for the head of world football should be extended from four to eight years.

"If he has done a good job, he stops (after eight years), if he has done a very good job, he can go four more years," the 76-year-old told a media briefing ahead of Sunday's Africa Cup of Nations final.

Blatter, who took over the FIFA presidency in 1998, did not rule out standing for another term in 2015.

"Don't ask me what happens in 2015," Blatter said when asked if he would stand again.

"I say that I will fight for my FIFA. But I will have to stop.

"I don't know when I will stop. I have said it's my last mandate. I have said it."

Blatter, whose reign has often been clouded by allegations of corruption, was the driving force behind South Africa hosting the 2010 World Cup.

Spain were crowned world champions at Soweto's Soccer City stadium, the venue for Sunday's 2013 Nations Cup final between Nigeria and Burkina Faso, whic Nigeria won 1-0.
