Bafana need goals and a favour

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana's AFCON 2015 fate may be settled regardless of the result against Ghana when Group C is decided on Tuesday.

If Senegal and Algeria play to a draw at the Estadio de Malabo, then South Africa will be sent packing from AFCON 2015.

Group C is decided on Tuesday when South Africa face Ghana (20:00 at Estadio de Mongomo) while Senegal face Algeria in Malabo at the same time.

Bafana Bafana will be hoping that Senegal will be able to pull off a surprise win against Algeria, leaving Shakes Mashaba's side's fate in their own hands.

Should Algeria fail to get a point out of their third Group C fixture, then South Africa will need to beat Ghana convincingly to qualify for the last 8 of the continental showpiece.

Unfortunately for fans of the national soccer team, that is not where the permutations end as Bafana Bafana need to turn around a -2 goal difference (compared to Senegal's +1) in order to qualify.

Permutations:

If Bafana Bafana lose or draw against Ghana, they will be knocked out.

If Algeria draw against Senegal and Bafana Bafana win, both sides will be left on four points but Algeria will progress, along with Senegal, due to their superior head to head record with South Africa.

If Algeria beat Senegal and Bafana Bafana beat Ghana, then it will come down to goal difference to separate Bafana Bafana and Senegal.
