Atsu: Ivory Coast are favourites

Malabo - Ahead of their much anticipated 2015 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) final clash against Ivory Coast, Ghana midfielder Christian Atsu believes that the Ivoirians are the favourites to lift the title this weekend.

The Black Stars will battle for their fifth continental crown when they face the Elephants at the Estadio de Bata on Sunday.

The 23-year-old player also cited that despite the Black Stars being the ‘underdogs’ they will give their best to win their tough clash.

“It is true; they are the favourites to win the tournament,” said Atsu.

“They have a good quality team which consists of great players from their defence to the attacking department.

“They are very professional but this is football, anything can happen.

“We are just going there to work hard and give our best for the country.”

Heading into the Final, Ghana defeated host nation Equatorial Guinea 3-0 in the semi-finals on Thursday but the Everton winger hinted that the game was very tough for his team-mates.

“The game was very difficult for Ghana. We won the game at the end of 90 minutes.

“The fans were behind Equatorial Guinea, they gave them a lot of confidence.

“They came all out in numbers but we worked hard until the end and we were rewarded at the end of the day.

“We have learned a lot from that game.”

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
