Cape Town - French giants Toulon have appointed Springbok No 8 Duane Vermeulen as club captain for the upcoming season.

The decision was made by the club’s new coach, Diego Dominguez, who choose to relieve hooker Guilhem Guirado of the captaincy duties.

Vermeulen, who will enter his second season at Toulon, is expected to miss the opening rounds of the French Top 14 due to Rugby Championship duty with the Boks.

He will return to lead Toulon in October.
