Teichmann, Sharks pay respects to Joost

Durban - The Sharks have joined the rest of the rugby fraternity and the nation in mourning the loss of Springbok stalwart, Joost van der Westhuizen.

"Joost was a warrior both on and off the rugby field and represented our country with distinction on the international circuit.  That same character and tenacity that saw him become one of our greatest players, was evident in his brave fight against Motor Neurone Disease," the Durban-based franchise said in a statement.

Gary Teichmann, Sharks CEO, shared the field with Van der Westhuizen.

"Joost was a great team man and was an outstanding ambassador for South African rugby. I will always cherish the memories we shared both on and off the field," Teichmann said.

"Our sincere condolences are extended to the entire Van der Westhuizen family on the loss of a son, brother, husband and father."
