Steyn joins Spies at Montpellier

Montpellier - Former South African World Cup winner Francois Steyn joined French Top 14 side Montpellier on Thursday as medical cover for the injured Ilian Perraux, the club announced.

The 28-year-old, who was playing in the Japanese championship having featured for Racing 92 in France in a previous spell after formative years with the Sharks, can play at flyhalf, fullback or in the centre.

Perraux has been ruled out until the end of the season.

Steyn will be joined by fellow Springboks star, back-rower Pierre Spies who has been summoned as cover for Antoine Battut who has undergone surgery on his hand.
