Netwerk24 reported on Wednesday that the Stormers and Western Province are now for sale, from the players down to the last pair of training shorts, and that includes the Bellville training venue (High Performance Centre).

It follows confirmation of final liquidation of the troubled business division of WP Rugby in the Cape High Court on Tuesday.

Chris van Zyl, one of two liquidators appointed by the Court to sell WP, was quoted as saying they were empowered to borrow money and were doing their best to provide the funds for this month’s salaries.

“We are in the process of finding a suitable buyer to protect the business of WP Rugby,” he said.

They would also do everything in their power - the other liquidator is Dallie van der Merwe - to protect sponsors in the future.

“New buyers will later be in a position to proceed with contracts with sponsors and other stakeholders.”

Van Zyl said all current contracts would be protected and a Stormers squad (for Super Rugby) would be named on provision that a suitable buyer was secured.

“Our undertaking as liquidators is to handle the business as a going concern.”
