Cape Town - Saracens wing Sean Maitland is likely to miss Scotland's June Test matches against Italy, Australia and Fiji with an ankle ligament injury.
The 28-year-old was selected in new Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend's first squad on Monday but Saracens boss Mark McCall has revealed that Maitland has sustained an ankle ligament injury.
"Sean is unfortunately out for the rest of the season. He's got an ankle ligament injury," McCall told BBC Sport.
"It may or may not need surgery, but we won't find out for a few days.
"It's cruel luck for a player who has been in such great form.
"I just feel sorry for Sean as he's had a great season and been a first-choice pick for us."
Maitland was born in New Zealand but qualified to play for Scotland because he has Glaswegian grandfathers. He has scored five tries in 28 internationals.
