IF ALL GOES ACCORDING TO PLAN*

Unlikely to happen, but IF the Springboks finish second in Pool B they will play the winners on Pool A (expected to be Ireland).

Should they win that, in the semi-finals they will play the winner of the quarter-final between the Winners of Pool C (expected to be England) and the Runners-up in Pool D (expected to be Wales).

*not likely

10 May 10:33

UNCONFIRMED, BUT...

World Rugby haven't confirmed it yet, but IF they keep the same structure as the last RWC, then the Winner of Pool A will play the Runner-up in Pool B

So ... if the Boks lose to NZ and finished second in Pool B, they will play the winner of Pool A in the quarters.

Pool A contains Ireland, Scotland, Japan and two otehrs who will have no say...

There is the possibility of hosts Japan being drawn in the same pool as the Boks. Wouldn't that be something?

The only sides the Boks CANNOT be drawn against are Scotland, Wales and France ...

'POOL OF DEATH' COULD AWAIT SPRINGBOKS!

The Springboks could potentially be drawn in the same pool as world champions New Zealand and Argentina.

Argentina, semi-finalists in 2007 and '15, have dropped to ninth place in the world rankings, meaning Los Pumas are among the third-seeded teams for the draw at the State Guest House.

That's the fate that befell the Welsh ahead of the 2015 draw, and they were pitted against host nation England, two-time winners Australia and Fiji in what was regarded at the time as the toughest pool in the 28-year history of the Rugby World Cup.

It could get even tougher on Wednesday!

Argentina will get drawn alongside one of New Zealand, England, Australia and Ireland from the band of first seeds, and one of Scotland, France, South Africa and Wales in the band of second seeds.

It leaves open the possibility that three countries from the southern hemisphere's Rugby Championship could be drawn in the same pool, with either New Zealand or Australia potentially in with South Africa and Argentina.

The 12 directly qualified teams are those that finished in the top three of each RWC 2015 pool and are (in each relevant band):

Band One: New Zealand, England, Australia, Ireland

Band Two: Scotland, Wales, South Africa, France

Band Three: Argentina, Japan, Georgia, Italy

Band Four: Oceania 1, Americas 1, Europe 1, Africa 1

Band Five: Oceania 2, Americas 2, Play-Off Winner (between Europe 2 and Oceania 3), Repechage Winner

10 May 08:33
The 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan will comprise 20 teams allocated into four pools of five teams. The 12 directly qualified teams from the 2015 Rugby World Cup are seeded based on the recent World Rugby rankings and positioned into three bands of four teams.
