Jones urges England to make history

London - England coach Eddie Jones has started the mental preparations for the Six Nations champions three-match Test series against Australia in June by motivating his team to go out and make history.

The 2003 World Champions have never won a series in Australia across three games against the Wallabies and Jones says that in order to achieve this goal, the team will have to be ready physically and mentally.

Jones told the England Rugby website: “I want to see which players are desperate to change the history of English rugby.”

Jones added that he will select battle hardened players who are ready to go to war and to do whatever it takes to get the team over the line.

“Players who want to go down there and get in the face of the Australians and make them uncomfortable. I’m looking for the guys that want to do that,” said Jones.

England face Wales on the May 29 before they head overseas and Jones has selected a 26-man squad for the clash with Wales - minus the players involved in the Premiership semi-finals.

He has also made it clear that the door is not yet shut on selection for the tour to Australia.

“There are a few spots still up for grabs, a few borderline spots but obviously we’ve got between 10-15 players involved in the semi-finals or even more, so they come back into consideration and 44 does not go into 31 or 32 or 33," Jones explained.

“The guys here have got an opportunity to put their best foot forward, we’ve got some guys who haven’t been involved in the camp before and some guys who have been just around the fringes so it’s their opportunity.”
