Cape Town - Eddie Jones appears to have no intention to return to Cape Town and help the Stormers with their pre-season preparations.
Jones shocked the Cape franchise last week when he agreed to become England’s new head coach, barely a week after being unveiled as the new Stormers coach.
The Stormers announced Jones’ departure last Friday, but according to Western Province Director of Rugby, Gert Smal, Jones was due to return to Cape Town in December to help the Stormers prepare for Super Rugby.
“Eddie will come in early December,” Smal said last Friday. “We will sit down and then we will do the pre-season phase. We won’t pay him anything. It was purely a thing from his side. He really feels bad about it.”
However, at his first media conference as England coach, Jones said he had no plans to return to Cape Town.
According to Rapport, Jones told a reporter when asked about his preparations for the Six Nations: “I’m not going back to South Africa, mate. I’ve agreed to do something for World Rugby in Los Angeles next week. When that is finished, I’ll be going back to Tokyo to greet my wife and advise her to pack her rain jacket. I’ll be back in England on December 1, ready to start.”
