Jones: I have the greatest job in rugby

Cape Town - New England coach Eddie Jones believes he currently occupies the “greatest job in world rugby”.

Jones was last month named as England’s new head coach, replacing Stuart Lancaster who was sacked after England failed to reach the knockout phases of the Rugby World Cup.

Jones coached Japan during the World Cup in England and masterminded one of the game’s greatest ever upsets when they beat the Springboks in their first game.

He was named coach of the Stormers for next year’s Super Rugby competition but quickly aborted his mission in Cape Town when England came calling.

But he has no regrets about taking the England job, telling World Rugby’s official website:

“It is the greatest job in world rugby. You have got a domestic competition that is very robust; you have got the talent there; you have got the biggest rugby union in the world.

“And they haven’t had success for a long period of time - you have to go back to 2003 - so it is just too good an opportunity not to take, particularly after the results in the last World Cup.

“There really is a renewed ambition and enthusiasm to do well. It is a dream job.”
