Cape Town - Munster
have confirmed that hooker Niall Scannell underwent thumb surgery on
Monday and is set to miss Ireland's November internationals.
Scannell sustained the injury in Munster's Round 1 Champions Cup win against Castres earlier this month and according to Munster's official website underwent surgery on Monday.
The 25-year-old is one of the back-ups to Rory Best for Ireland, but will now miss the upcoming Test matches.
Ireland host South Africa in their opening match on November 11 and clash with Fiji a week later before taking on Argentina on November 25.
