Ex-Wallabies coach replaces Coetzee

Tokyo - Former Wallabies attack coach Jim McKay was appointed as the new head coach of Japan's Kobelco Steelers on Thursday, just over a week after Allister Coetzee left for the South Africa job.

McKay spent 15 months as Australia's backs coach between 2013 and 2014 and also played an instrumental role in the Reds' Super Rugby title success in 2011.

The 49-year-old takes over a Kobe-based franchise seeking to win the Japanese Top League for the first time since the inaugural season in 2003-04.
