Murrayfield - Scotland have called up Edinburgh backrow
Cornell du Preez as injury cover ahead of Saturday's clash with Argentina at
Murrayfield.
The South African-born number eight completed his three-year
residency qualification last month but was not included in Scotland's squad for
their end-of-year Tests as he had not yet fully recovered from ankle surgery he
underwent during the off-season.
The 25-year-old earns his call-up as a consequence of the
injuries to Ryan Wilson, John Hardie and Richie Gray sustained in Scotland's
23-22 loss to Australia at Murrayfield on Saturday and the ongoing
rehabilitation of back-row Josh Strauss.
Wilson suffered a laceration to his ankle in the fifth
minute of the match which required medical attention at Edinburgh Royal
Infirmary. He re-joined the team after the match.
Hardie suffered a concussion, as well as a knee and ankle
sprain, in the 61st minute and Gray underwent a head injury assessment (HIA) in
the 12th minute and returned to the field.
He must now complete the third part of the HIA process on
Monday (48-hours post-match) to be considered available for this Saturday’s
clash with Argentina.
