Cheetahs, Kings to travel for PRO14 openers

Cape Town - Both the Cheetahs and Southern Kings will be away from home for the opening two weeks of the first ever PRO14.

The new-look tournament, which has included the two South African franchises as part of its expansion, gets underway on September 1.

According to Wales Online, the first three rounds of fixtures have been confirmed.

In week one, the Cheetahs will be away to Ireland's Ulster while the Kings travel to Wales for a clash against Scarlets.

In week two, the Kings visit Connacht (Ireland) and the Cheetahs travel to Munster (Ireland).

Then, in week three, both sides are set to return to South Africa for their first home games of the competition where the Kings will host Leinster (Ireland) and the Cheetahs will take on Italy's Zebre in Bloemfontein.

The fixtures are yet to be officially confirmed, and at this stage neither the Cheetahs nor the Kings has announced a squad for the tournament.

That in itself is expected to be a challenge, with both sides involved in the Currie Cup (Cheetahs in Premier Division, Kings in First Division).

The new tournament format sees two Conferences of seven sides.

Fixtures for the first 13 rounds of fixtures are expected to be announced on Monday.

September 7/8
