Carr leads Stormers in Jaguares duel

Cape Town - No 8 Nizaam Carr will captain the Stormers in their pre-season friendly against the Jaguares at Newlands on Saturday (16:00 kick-off).

Head coach Robbie Fleck on Thursday named a 31-man squad for the encounter with the team from Argentina who are newcomers to Super Rugby this season.

The friendly will be the last chance for the squad to test themselves ahead of the first Super Rugby match of the season against the Bulls at Newlands on Saturday, February 27.

Fleck said that the focus will be on making the most of the opportunity to execute what they have been working on in a tough pre-season.

“We are just over two weeks off from that opening game against the Bulls, and we want to use this chance to ensure we are able to make a strong start to the season.

The Stormers coach is expecting a serious test in all departments against a Jaguares team that boasts a number of prominent Argentina internationals such as Nicolás Sánchez, Santiago Cordero, Juan Manuel Leguizamón, and captain Agustín Creevy.

“This Jaguares side is a powerful outfit who will be keen to show that they will be a force to be reckoned with this season, so they will be a great test to see where we are at two weeks from the start of the season,” he said.

The match will not be televised.
