Boudjellal fumes at salary cap fine

Cape Town - French Top 14 club Toulon owner Mourad Boudjellal has lashed out after being fined €100 000 for exceeding the player salary cap during the 2014/15 season.

Boudjellal claims they haven't been informed about the fine but confirmed that they will contest it, with an appeal likely to follow.

"Frankly, it's a shocking stupidity," Boudjellal told L'Equipe.

"I know that we were €80 000 below the salary cap, the salaries were inflated without any evidence."

He also claimed the best paid players in France were not playing for Toulon and suggested that the auditing process which led to the fine might be rigged.

"The best paid French Top 14 players are Morgan Parra and Aurélien Rougerie, two players from Clermont, and you know, Deloitte were the statutory auditor in this matter. And these are people of Michelin paid by the league. I am 1000 percent sure of it".

The ordeal has also led to Boudjellal threatening his club's participation in the first week of the season, which kicks off on August 20.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
