London - Handre Pollard's 14 points provided the backbone to South Africa's 24-13 win over Argentina and the small consolation of taking third at the Rugby World Cup on Friday.
The 21-year-old flyhalf - who converted JP Pietersen and Eben Etzebeth's tries - had to give second best though to Argentinian captain and flyhalf Nicolas Sanchez.
Sanchez eight points were enough to keep him as top scorer for the tournament with 97 while Pollard finishes with 93.
Australian flyhalf Bernard Foley could yet get past Sanchez but he would need to score 23 points in the final with arch-rivals and defending champions New Zealand at Twickenham on Saturday - All Blacks legend Dan Carter would need an unlikely 35.
