Pollard insures his leg - for R2 million!

Cape Town - Springbok  flyhalf Handre Pollard’s most prized possession has been covered just in time for the most important eight weeks of his life.

Mariah Carey insured her legs, David Beckham his whole body, Fernando Alonso his thumbs and Ugly Betty’s America Ferrera has gone as far as to seek insurance cover for her signature smile.

So it is no surprise that Bidvest Insurance has made it a priority to insure one of South Africa's most prized possessions - Handre Pollard’s kicking foot - for a whopping R2 million!

“Well, with rugby's biggest competition having kicked off, one could say it’s a matter of national importance”, said Phil Donnelly, Sales & Marketing Director at Bidvest Insurance with a wry smile.

Donnelly continued, ‘Handre is a key member of the national team and we want to ensure that we’re getting behind our boys over the next eight weeks and literally putting our money where our mouth is, in insurance’.

The Springboks opened their 2015 Rugby World Cup campaign with a shock 34-32 loss to Japan.

The Boks will play Samoa on Saturday in their next match at 17:45 SA time.
