Kriel earns a 'medal' from Samoa

Cape Town - While the world pays its respects to retired - and injured - captain Jean de Villiers, Springbok centre Jesse Kriel is battered and bruised himself.

The 21-year-old replaced Damian de Allende in Saturday's win over Samoa but was not on the field long before he had to leave after a nasty knock to the face.

At that point De Villiers heroically came back on to replace Kriel - broken jaw and all - with a few minutes left in the match.

Kriel should be okay, but he was a bit worse for wear on Monday.

SuperSport presenter and commentator Matthew Pearce took to Twitter to show the world how the highly-rated Bok was recovering.

The Boks take on Scotland this Saturday. Kick-off is at 17:45.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
