England merchandise 'reduced to clear'

Cape Town - The fallout from England's early exit from this year's Rugby World Cup continues unabated...

England crash out of RWC 2015: All the memes as Twitter reacts

England set the unwanted 'record' of becoming the first hosting nation to be eliminated from the tournament in the Pool stages, when they lost consecutive matches against Wales and Australia.

On Monday England dropped to a new low of eighth in the World Rugby rankings.

Now it seems the demand for England merchandise has plummeted too with stores in the UK offering England jerseys, scarves, beanies, mugs and key rings at "reduced to clear prices".

Experts have put England's exit at around £1 million (R21m) per game for host broadcasters ITV.

Adding to England's woes are reports that World Rugby is investigating whether England's coaching staff made an illegal approach to match officials at half-time in their loss by Australia last Saturday at Twickenham.

England will look to end their campaign on a high note when they tackle minnows Uruguay at the City of Manchester stadium on Saturday at 21:00 SA time.
