Whiteley extends Lions stay

Cape Town - Springbok trio Marnitz Boshoff, Julian Redelinghuys and captain Warren Whiteley have all extended their contracts with the Lions until 2016, the Lions' official website reports.

In addition, Jaco Kriel and Ruan Dreyer - Bok squad members for the end-of-year tour - have also signed on for a further two seasons with the franchise.

The Lions are coming of a stellar 2014 season which resulted in their best ever Super Rugby finish (12th overall and fourth in the SA Conference) as well as a Currie Cup final (where they lost to WP).

The Golden Lions Rugby Union (GLRU) is expected to engage in contractual negotiations with more senior and junior players in the coming weeks.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
