Johannesburg - The New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) will co-operate with South African police inquiries into an accusation of rape against a member of its Under-20 team, it said on Monday.

"The team has just returned from South Africa, and we are discussing all available details with team management," the NZRU said in a statement.

"Our understanding of the matter is that the allegation was focused on one player."

Neil Sorensen, the NZRU general manager of professional rugby, said all members of the nation's Under-20 squad had returned home.

"The team and team management complied with local police requirements and co-operated fully and assisted them with their inquiries, after which police advised they were happy for all members of the team to travel home," Sorensen said.

"Neither team management, nor NZRU have been contacted by the local authorities since then or advised of any further issues or inquiries.

"If we are contacted, we will co-operate and help in any way we can."

Colonel Vish Naidoo said earlier police were called to the New Zealand team's hotel in Cape Town on Saturday morning when a 22-year-old woman claimed one of the "Baby Blacks" had raped her.

"Police forensic experts were on the scene at the hotel scouring the crime scene and taking samples on the spot."

Naidoo said the charge was being investigated.

The New Age reported that the New Zealand High Commission held top-level negotiations with police about the incident and to secure the whole team's safe passage from South Africa on Saturday night.

The New Zealand side lost 22-16 to the Baby Boks at a packed Newlands Stadium in the final of the IRB Junior World Championship on Friday evening.

      Rob - 2012-06-25 14:29

No, Tom is not stupid. This is one of those " rugby groupies " looking for " payment " one way or the other. Bet she's coloured !

      noeline.degee - 2012-06-25 15:11

Rob, you're a douche. Stop turning everything into a race thing. What confuses me is that she cannot really remember the incident in detail, but she can single out 1 particular person. Have to see how this all plays out.

      Tom - 2012-06-25 16:55

i once steeked a chick while i was drunk and i didnt remember much the next day but yirra it felt good, didnt see me complaining

      Theo - 2012-06-26 11:15

Tom / harold your attempt of impersonating someone from the cape flats in your "Tom" persona" is very poor with a lacking in genuine knowledge. You dont know much about them which is obvious and I wont let you know what the give away is. it was a good try though. lol I say that You are a white male to afraid to say what you think in your real profile so you created these persona's

      Tom - 2012-06-26 21:53

imitating someone from cape flats how? i think u r the one who is confused and i guess you are a stormers supporter or a cape flats resident

Something is really fishy here. Did she even scream for help? Why did she report only in the next morning?

  • isabel.ashe.7 - 2012-06-25 15:00

Rape is Rape. Even if You are WHITE, BLACK, or COLOURED, who gives you the rite to RAPE... IF YOU NEED TO HAVE SEX,GO AND PAY FOR IT...... REAL MAN DONT RAPE.

dont get me wrong but if a 22 year old girl is aware that she is going to a hotel on her own late at night meeting with a guy (s) she probably met that night (likely), then Im sure she would have the intelligence to know the risk of doing that. Too many girls these days invite trouble by making stupid decisions. You would expect a teenager to make those clumsy decisions. Not a 22 year old .The member of the Baby blacks should also know better but then again most of these guys are still in their late teens so stupidity is nothing new.

      Robi - 2012-06-25 16:01

@ej, stupidity is never an excuse, the law never uses that as evidence in someone's favour...imagine in court the lawyer saying "my client is not guilty your honour, he is just stupid and here is our New Zealand stupidity expert to prove that"...

      Tom - 2012-06-25 16:56

perfect opportunity for a little payout to keep her quiet, get more than her normal hourly rate

  • Billy - 2012-06-25 15:20

if she cant remember who it was, it could of been supporters dressed up in all black gear. but if its her blood is found on the sheets inside the AB players room... does not sound good.

      Tom - 2012-06-25 16:56

if she cant remember who it was it could be those all black supporters who were born in cape town

  • Robi - 2012-06-25 15:56

does anyone know when did this happen, was it Friday after these black babies were beaten or it happened before that; am just thinking of the likelihood of anger management issues if it happened after 22 - 16 whipping by our boys...

      Caleb - 2012-06-25 22:05

whipping? yeah right. Try winning the comp five years in a row, then we'll talk.

In the first article i read early it said there where four players involved now there's only one...whats going on? If she is telling the truth which I doubt how can she say person A or person B raped when she cant remember anything. She is most likely a prostitute who didn't get paid

      Tom - 2012-06-25 16:57

i like the way u think

  • Cassandra Eileen Olivier - 2012-06-25 16:23

    Only she knows the truth

      Tom - 2012-06-25 16:57

yes she does, she had a lekker heerlike steek and now she wants to capitalise

  • Johan - 2012-06-25 17:24

The fact that SAPS allowed the man to leave SA speaks volumes. It is tantamount to an admission that there is no evidence. If evidence does emerge linking any player it is going to take an extradition to get him or them here. This has happened before with a NZ rugby player. That was settled by way of a cash settlement. Could easily go that way again.

  • catgirl1971 - 2012-06-25 19:52

She pitched up quite late in the evening and pissed @ the Southern Sun to visit her 'cousin' and went to a room where there were apparently 4 ABs. She couldn't remember anything yet 1 guy is identified? Either she was drugged (Roofies) or she's lying. What I suspect happened is that she shagged one (or all), woke up the next morning feeling terrible, knew she couldn't explain to her parents so decided to cry rape instead.
