Wasps sign Ashley Johnson

Cape Town - English club London Wasps have signed Cheetahs and Springbok loose forward Ashley Johnson on a two-year deal.

It is understood that Johnson will play for the north-London club from the start of the next European season.

According to the website, Planetrugby.com, Johnson is one of four new signings made by Wasps, who are in danger of going into administration unless they can attract new investment by the end of the campaign, following the collapse of takeover talks.

Johnson, veteran Wales flyhalf Stephen Jones, Leeds prop Phil Swainston and Ospreys prop Will Taylor, are the new signings.

London Wasps CEO Chris Thomas said they are pleased to secure these excellent signings although their priority now is concluding a deal which will secure their financial future.

"While everyone is aware that the club is seeking investment as a matter of urgency at the moment, in terms of player recruitment and retention, like every other club at this time, we have been working hard to continue to put our squad together for next season," said Thomas.

Johnson also confirmed the news on his Twitter account on Wednesday."Can confirm to u guys that I have sign a 2 year contract to play for london Wasps!!" tweeted the 25-year-old.
