Wannenburg moves to Ulster

J.J. Harmse

Pretoria – The Bulls’ most experienced Super 14 player, Pedrie Wannenburg, will continue his rugby career with Ulster.

Wannenburg, who became the first player to make 100 appearances for the Bulls this year, will apparently be released by the Bulls to play for the Irish regional side.

Ulster recently signed Johann Muller, who played with Wannenburg for SWD’s Craven Week side, as well as Ruan Pienaar. Springbok tighthead prop BJ Botha also plays for them.

It is believed that Wannenburg will be released immediately and he will therefore not play for the Blue Bulls in the Currie Cup.
The Blue Bulls did not want to confirm anything, but an announcement is expected soon.

Wannenburg, who played for the Bulls 113 times and in 99 consecutive matches, also played 80 times for the Blue Bulls and represented South Africa in 20 Tests.

He won three Super 14 titles with the Bulls and was a member of the Blue Bulls side that won the Currie Cup five times.

Wannenburg was in the news earlier this year when he admitted to using drugs, but silenced the critics with a number of impressive performances.
