Wannenburg chases double

London - Ulster No 8 Pedrie Wannenburg is relishing the prospect of facing Leinster in Saturday's Heineken Cup final at Twickenham.

Wannenburg is on the brink of becoming only the third player to achieve the northern and southern hemisphere double of winning the Heineken Cup and Super Rugby titles.

The former Springbok loose forward won two Super Rugby crowns with the Bulls and is keen to join Rod Kafer and Doug Howlett as the only players to achieve the double.

Former Wallabies centre Kafer won the Super 12 with the Brumbies in 2001 and the following season he was also part of Leicester's victorious Heineken Cup team.

Howlett was the next man to achieve the double, winning the Super 14 with the Blues in 2003 before adding European success in 2008.

Wanneburg is not the only player that can join the illustrious club, however. Leinster's Brad Thorn won the Super 14 with the Crusaders in 2008 but could become the first man to win both northern and southern hemisphere titles as well as the World Cup.

"I am chasing one of my dreams," Wannenburg told Skysports.

"This is one of my dreams, to win a Heineken Cup final. I was fortunate to win a couple of Currie Cups and a couple of Super 14s and for sure this is right up there in my career.

"I am really looking forward to the final against Leinster. It is an amazing feeling for us. Guys have waited 13 years for this opportunity and we are the lucky ones who are going to the final.

"We have a great squad with a nice blend of youth and experience and we have so much to look forward to with this Heineken Cup Final.

"I always wanted to play in the Heineken Cup - the Pool stages were super - but now we are through to the final with everything to play for," he added.
