Cape Town - The Valke have recorded their first victory in this year's Vodacom Cup competition by beating the Griffons 38-17 in the HT Pelatona Stadium in Welkom on Friday afternoon.

The visitors from Brakpan enjoyed a comfortable lead of 19-7 at the break that set the tone for a well deserved bonus point victory over the Purple People Eaters.

The Griffons started the better of the two sides and enjoyed an early lead of 7-0 after a good try by flanker Martin Sithole and resulting conversion by fly half Louis Strydom in the 15th minute of the game. But it was to be the hosts last points of the first half as the Valke stepped up their game and scored three tries before the break.
