Lions thrash Limpopo Bulls

Polokwane - The Golden Lions have completed a 110-0 thrashing over the hapless Limpopo Blue Bulls in their Vodacom Cup North Section match at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium, in Polokwane, on Saturday.

The Golden Lions led 68-0 at the half-time interval.

The visitors ran in 16 unanswered tries while flyhalf Wille du Plessis ended with 30 points as he kicked 15 conversions.

The Golden Lions had 10 different try-scorers with flanks Stephan de Witt and Cyle Brink, prop Nico du Plessis, centre Ruhan Nel and fullback Chrysander Botha all dotting down twice.

The defeat was Limpopo's sixth consecutive loss this season while the defending champion Lions moved in to fourth place on the log.

The Lions eased to a 68-0 lead at half-time with Limpopo seemingly having no answer to the visitor's power and craft.

Left wing Selom Gavor, Brink, centre Stokkies Hanekom, Nico du Plessis twice, number eight Ruaan Lerm, Nel, lock Lourens Erasmus and hooker Sipha Qinisile all scored first-half tries as Limpopo were blown away.

The second half saw much of the same with Nel grabbing his second try

seven minutes after the resumption as the floodgates opened once again.

De Witt, Brink, Botha twice and replacement Caswell Khoza all scored tries to complete the rout.

Scorers:

Golden Lions - 110: Tries: Stephan de Witt (2), Selom Gavor, Cyle Brink (2), Stokkies Hanekom, Nico du Plessis (2), Ruaan Lerm, Ruhan Nel (2), Lourens Erasmus, Sipha Qinisile, Chrysander Botha (2), Caswell Khoza; Conversions: Willie du Plessis (15)

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
