Leopards maul Limpopo Bulls

Johannesburg - The Leopards XV scored 11 tries in a 71-10 mauling of the Limpopo Blue Bulls in the Vodacom Cup North Section at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday.

The Leopards went 18-16 to the Golden Lions last week, with Guy Cronje converting a penalty in the last minute. They were never in doubt on Saturday though, scoring five tries to lead 35-10 at half time.

For the Limpopo team, it was another day of misery. They have now conceded 133 points in two games after their 62-10 hammering at the hands of the Griffons last week.

The struggling Bulls side were competitive for just 17 minutes, when they fought back from being 14-3 down to score a try through scrumhalf Niyass Johnson, converted by Andy Huysamen, to cut the lead to 14-10.

But then the Leopards attacked with ferocity and purpose. Forwards and backs competed with each other to cross the line, and flyhalf Gerhard Nortier collected 10 points with his conversions.

The Leopards showed their superiority by making three changes to the back line, including both centres, at half time, and changed four forwards as the game went on.

The onslaught never let up, with the Leopards adding another six tries in the second half without reply, while Nortier took his points tally to 16.
