Johannesburg - GWK Griquas are still the only unbeaten side in this year's Vodacom Cup competition after beating Border Bulldogs 37-25 in Hartswater on Saturday afternoon.

According to the supersport.com website, the hosts scored five tries to cement the bonus point against the Bulldogs in a tough game that delivered some good running rugby to the very end.

Griquas started really well, with a penalty as early as the second minute resulting in three points via the kicking boot of centre Clinton Swart. It wasn't long however before the Peacock Blues started showing of the running style of play they are so famous for.

Winger Rocco Jansen dotted down in the 5th minute after some good pressure and Swart converted to leave the visitors stunned early on. Seven minutes later Griquas centre JW Jonker went over for the first of his two tries on the day with Swart again at hand to help with the conversion.

Stunned by the hosts quick brace of tries, the Bulldogs recovered somewhat as full back Masixole Banda kicked a penalty in the 15th minute. That was the incentive that the Border Bulldogs needed as prop Johannes Jonker burst over for his converted try shortly thereafter.

But Griquas were the better side in the first half as centre JW Jonker went over for his second five pointer in the 20th minute, that Swart converted with ease. Banda kicked another successful penalty ten minutes before halftime to see the score to 24-13 in favour of the hosts.

Border drew first blood in the second half as winger Sipho Nofemele ran in for the first of his two tries, with fly half Oliver Zono converting. Swarts answered with a penalty before Griquas captain and lock Hugo Kloppers and flanker Martin Bezuidenhout added a five pointers of their own. Nofemele scored his second try five minutes from fulltime but it was to little to late.

GWK Griquas 37 (24): Tries: Rocco Jansen, JW Jonker (2), Hugo Kloppers, Martin Bezuidenhout. Conversions: Clinton Swart (3). Penalties: Swart (2).

Border Bulldogs 25 (13): Tries: Johannes Jonker, Sipho Nofemele (2). Conversions: Maxisole Banda (2). Penalties: Maxisole Banda (2).
