Griquas crush Limpopo Bulls

Groblersdal - Rocco Jansen, in his 50th match for Griquas, scored five tries to inspire the visitors to a commanding 124-5 win against the Limpopo Blue Bulls in a Vodacom Cup match here on Saturday.

Griquas flyhalf Francois Brummer scored 29 points, including 12 conversions and a try.

The burly Marnus Schoeman excelled in the role of ball-carrier and also managed five tries.

The visitors led 38-5 at half-time, courtesy of five tries and a penalty try.

Griquas ran riot after the break and Limpopo looked dazed and confused, as if they were hit by a runaway freight train.

They had no answer to the excellent rucking by the forwards and the slick passing game by the visitors, with Brummer and scrumhalf Enrico Acker ensuring they received quality possession.

Jansen, who has represented the Free State Cheetahs in four games and previously also plied his trade with the Blue Bulls, is a balanced runner and can be devastating with enough space at his disposal.

He had acres of space, and his forwards had a monopoly of possession.

Schoeman might have given the franchise selectors a glimpse of his ability, excelling with hard work in cleaning out the rucks, while also finishing off several movements with his running off the ball.

Brummer was full value for his 29 points, and he might provide the selectors with some food for thought as the Cheetahs could be looking at their strength in reserve in the absence of injured Springbok Johan Goosen.

Brummer's tactical and goal kicking was superb.
